Melissa essential oil has a sweet, fresh, citrus-like fragrance and is steam distilled from the fresh flowering tops, leaves and stems of the Melissa officinalis plant . Melissa, with its antiviral property can inactivate a virus before it enters a cell. This is important since a virus needs a host cell before it can multiply and do its damage in the body. This makes Melissa very very effective against the herpes virus , one application can clear up herpes simplex.

Melissa was called the �elixir of life� by Avincenna, the ancient Roman physician. The herb was associated particularly with nervous disorders, the heart, and emotions. Melissa was used for anxiety, melancholy, and to strengthen and revive the vital spirit.

  • Vaporizers
    • In vapor therapy, Melissa oil can assist with fighting depression as well as having a greatly calming effect on the mind, reducing fevers, easing headaches, and for combating nausea.
  • Blended massage oil or in the bath
    • As a blended massage oil or used in the bath, Melissa oil can help with fever, headaches, depression, feeling jittery and stressed-out, settle upset stomachs and fighting fungal infections.
  • Cream or lotion
    • Although the high aldehyde content of Melissa oil may cause an allergic reaction in some individuals, it is useful to fight fungal infections, checking the blood flow in wounds and in some quarters it is also used to counteract baldness and hair loss.
Test for sensitivity. Diluting this essential oil in vegetable or carrier oil before applying to the skin is recommended.
